🍽️ Description

Museo Iloilo is Iloilo’s premier provincial museum, located in the heart of the city along Bonifacio Drive, right beside the Iloilo Provincial Capitol. Designed by Ilonggo architect Sergio Peñasales, the building itself is a piece of cultural heritage.

The museum curates a rich tapestry of Ilonggo history — from prehistoric tools and burial jars, to trade ceramics from China and Southeast Asia, to war relics, traditional weaponry, and jewelry.

🏆 Highlights
  • Ethnographic & Archaeological Collection: Ideal for learning about the Ati people, prehistoric pottery, and traditional Ilonggo weaponry.
  • Trade Ceramics: Features trade ware from China, Siam, and other regions — a nod to Iloilo’s rich maritime history.
  • War Relics & Historical Photos: Includes mementos from World War II and colonial-era Philippines.
  • Religious Sculptures: Spanish-era sculptures, including depictions of saints and religious relics.
  • Changing Art Exhibits: The museum also showcases local contemporary artists, making it a cultural hub.
  • Architectural Significance: The museum building is itself a work of art — designed by Sergio Peñasales, it stands out in the provincial capitol complex.
💡 Why Go

🧭 Lakatta Tip

Visit in the morning (10:00 AM is ideal) to beat the heat and have a calm walk through the galleries. Bring a valid student ID if you’re a student — you’ll get a discounted ticket. And while you’re there, don’t skip the outdoor area: there are old cannons and relics that make for great photo stops.
